This 1981 collection from Bruton Music is all about the technology of the time; stacked synthesizers and drum machines abound, but the compositions behind them are as warm as the sounds coming out of the analog equipment being used to perform it. Versatile composer Alan Hawkshaw handles the A-Side; the percussion-heavy “Thrust Forward” and “Optimism” are highlights. Though it precedes the song by about three years, “Pro-Motion” sounds a lot like Harold Faltermeyer’s famous “Axel F”. The Bennett/Lawson side is similar, but none of the tracks reach the highs you’ll find on Side A; the closer “Drive On” comes close.
